RedLines 2 - Finding the Line [Announcement]

RedLines 2 - Finding the Line is game about going real fast without crashing into junk. Your goal is simply to go further than you've ever gone before, then some more. RedLines 2 will be pay-what-you-want and the PC version will be released on Friday 31st January 2014.

The original RedLines game spawned out of Ludum Dare. You can read about it's conception in a previous post and play it here.

Game Design Document

I'm an amateur, so when I write a heading that says "Game Design Document" and proceed to share something titled RedLines 2 Design Document, maybe don't go preaching my style like a holy scripture. Or maybe do! Maybe it really is that good? (it's not)

Broken down into a list, here's what we're finding useful about a GDD

Ludum Dare 28 : enter RedLines

Game Jams

Ludum Dare (loo-dum dah-ray) is "a regular accelerated game development event.  Participants develop games from scratch in a weekend, based on a theme suggested by community". That's Game Jam for short. It's a very popular event that had around two thousand participants in December 2013. Participating is a good idea if you want to make games. Even if you make shit and it doesn't work, you'll have learned a lot for next time. And if those sparkling words of encouragement didn't touch you (in a nice way) then here's some key points from How To Get The Most Out Of A Game Jam:
  • game jams are for fun, and they are really fun
  • socialise and take breaks. you and your game will benefit from treating yourself well during the jam
  • a jam isn't the best time to learn new tools. you'd help yourself by following some tutorials and learning basic skills the week before
  • keep it simple
There's also #onegameamonth page of wisdom - challenge yourself to finish making a game each month!
